Teacherfest Programme 2023

Welcome to the programme for Bristol Teacherfest 2023

This is the fourth year of Teacherfest, Bristol Education Partnership’s summer celebration of
learning and teaching, taking place across the city. Once again, we have an exciting line-up of
speakers. Ross Morrison McGill, Professor Paul Howard-Jones, Hannah Wilson and John Tomsett
among many others will be sharing their expertise. We are delighted also to have the support of the
Education Endowment Foundation and two of our local research schools here in the south-west.

This year we are taking a different approach. We are keen to reach as many classroom teachers as possible and to this end, the majority of sessions are arranged in subject clusters. There will also be special events for pastoral leads, special educational needs colleagues and careers staff.

For the first time, most sessions will be taking place live as half-day events. Colleagues are encouraged to come and meet others from across the city, and from further afield, to learn with and from each other. Every session will include time for discussion and collaboration.

There is an overarching theme this year: many of the sessions will be underpinned by cognitive science. Evidence from cognitive science research is increasingly being used to inform interventions, practice, and policy in education and will be reflected in our deliberations. It is crucial that teachers understand how learning happens and that students understand how they learn, so that they can draw on this throughout their lives. We hope that there is something here for everyone. Booking will open on Monday 24 April and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. As there are limited places at all events you are advised to book early.

We look forward to seeing you in June.
