Mayor calls for more Bristolians to become Learning City Ambassadors

Mayor Marvin Rees is calling for more people to support Bristol Learning City by becoming ambassadors and share their experiences about how learning has changed their lives.

There are currently 160 people volunteering as ambassadors in Bristol, from many different walks of life and communities from across the city.

Last night (2 November) an event took place in the Arnolfini bringing existing volunteers together to strengthen the network, celebrate the role that ambassadors are playing and plan for the year ahead.

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said:

“Being a Learning City is all about partnership working, with many different organisations united around the belief that learning something new can improve people’s lives. Our ambassador scheme has been running for over a year now and we’re looking to expand this so that there are more people in even more of our communities who are actively encouraging their friends, family and neighbours to learn.”

Since it was established in 2015, the Bristol Learning City partnership has helped to create a united voice on education and skills. A change in the council’s constitution means that important decisions on issues such as how to get young people into work are now made collectively. Many different organisations – from universities and schools to local businesses – now get a say and share responsibility for creating new opportunities for the residents of Bristol.

Maryna is a Director of Personal Reality CIC and is a Learning City Ambassador. She is a former Journalist and now a qualified life coach who has been helping people to adapt to a pressurised competitive environment, teaching a strategic skill set of how to transform fears and barriers and discover and achieve life goals and potential. She says:

“We are born to grow and learn and ordinary people together can do extraordinary things. An inspirational culture and recognising opportunities in our Learning City can benefit everyone and being an Ambassador is a fantastic opportunity to help others develop new skills. Only you can challenge yourself to become ambitious, learn and thrive. Come and join us.”
